Service Projects

Our club has been involved in a variety of projects that involve community services, assisting children and seniors locally and worldwide.  Below are some of the projects since the club's inception in 1965:

YOUTH CENTRE –
Tsawwassen home conversion on 12th. Avenue to house ““The KIDEL Youth club”. Turned over to the Municipality for program use.

SOUTH DELTA KIWANIS LIBRARY at the KIWANIS LONGHOUSE – the largest project undertaken by the club. Raised $71,000 and invested 2500 hours of volunteer labour. Although the library has moved on the structure still serves the community today.

ROYAL CANADIAN AIR CADETS – Sponsored the formation of 828 Hurricane Air Cadet Squadron in 1972 officially chartered January 1973.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, (Now renamed DELTA ASSOCIATION for CHILD DEVELOPMENT) – building renovation, security fencing and playground was built.

GATEWAY HOUSE – a one year intense project to bring facilities up to current health and safety standards.

BENTLEY DRIVE, KIWANIS PARK – a community park built from the bottom up over four summers, Cost $17,000 and over 600 volunteer hours.

PIER in the POND, DIEFENBAKER PARK – a 700 square foot pier in partnership with the Delta Municipality Parks and Recreation Department. Tested the skills of our members having to build a cofferdam into the pond and complete a multi-angled structure without harming the park wildlife. $12,500 and 700 hours of volunteer labour involved.

BASKETBALL PRACTICE COURT –built in Mountain View Park Ladner, opened September 21, 2000, involved placing 15 tons, $8,100 of interlocking paving stones and 130 hours of volunteer labour, was completed as a shared partnership with the Delta Parks and Recreation Department.

KIDZ 4 SUCCESS KAMP -This is an award winning program of early intervention for 9 - 12 year old boys within the Ladner Community. The young people attend a comprehensive agenda filled 4 days at an outdoor camp location with trained peer facilitators and counsellors where youth designed programs aimed at achieving goals are presented. The program will focus on the whole person; promoting and supporting change in their emotional, physical and spiritual selves. Follow up events are held at 1-month, 3-months, 6-months, 9-months and one full.

BC Waterfowl Society - New and refurbished trails, structures and facilities at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary at Westham Island, winter home of the Lesser Snow Goose and one of Canada's top bird-watching sites in the heart of the Fraser River estuary.
